There is no doubt that the Kenyan film industry is steadily rising and is probably the next big thing.

Here are some of the best movies set and produced in Kenya

1. NAIROBI HALF-LIFE

Nairobi Half-Life was released in October 2012. It made an entry for the best foreign-language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards but did not make it to the final shortlist. It is arguably the best Kenyan movie. Nairobi Half-life was directed by David Gitonga aka Tosh. Rated at 7.4/10, the movie is about an aspiring actor from Kenya making a living selling western action films while chasing his dreams in the city.The drama film stars Joseph Wairimu and is 1hr 36m long.



2.VEVE

The Kenyan drama film was directed by Simon Mukali.It is a co-production of one Fine Day film and Ginger Ink.Veve was released in 2014. It is about an immoral politician, his unhappy wife, and an ex-convict who find themselves caught up in narcotic trade full of intrigue and betrayal. Veve is rated 6.5/10 and is 1hr 35m long



3. WORLD TOFAUTI

World tofauti was released on 22nd December 2017. It stars the famous Kenyan musician Avril Nyambura and Innocent Njuguna. The 1hr 11m Kenyan romantic film was directed by Kangethe Mungai. and features Maureen Njau in a supporting role.



5. URADI

Uradi was featured on Netflix in 2020. directed by Kangethe Mungai, the movie is about a university student who looks for a quick way to make money and finds out it's not as easy as he imagined. Uradi is rated 7.3/10



5. 40 STICKS

When their prison bus crushes in a forest on a rainy night, a group of criminals finds themselves battling wild animals and a mysterious killer.40 sticks was released on 20th November 2020 and directed by Victor Gatonye. It is rated 5.7/10 and is 1hr 32 m long

6. GRAND LITTLE LIE
Made on a small budget by Phil-it production, The Grand Little Lie revolves around Joe, a people-pleaser who tells a small lie to his boss in order to please his girlfriend. This lie eventually blows to magnitudes of biblical proportions and leaves him with an egg on his face.




7. INTELLECTUAL SCUM
This is a 2015 Kenyan short film produced by Kevin Njue.it is an adaptation of the controversial article "You Lazy African Scam " by a  Zambian Media practitioner Field Ruwe. It is perhaps the most successful short film in the history of film in Kenya with widespread criticism across Africa.
